Viv Lloyd

Assistant Director for Primary and Early Years, National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics. Viv has worked as head of a lower school (3-7) and as a deputy head of a 400+ primary school. She has held several advisory and school improvement roles for a local authority and multi-academy trusts, providing leadership and practitioner support. Viv has also led primary QTS and EYTS PGCE programmes. Currently Viv is working as part of the NCETM team who are developing a Teaching for Mastery approach within UK schools. This approach to mathematics learning has received global intertest and Viv has worked with several international schools to support them with their adoption and development of this practice.

A lot of attention is being given to the changes that are happening in the way teaching and learning in mathematics is being approached. What initially may have been a few tweaks and updates to the National Curriculum has been superseded by pedagogical shifts that are rippling through schools. More and more schools are adopting Teaching for Mastery (TfM) principles and are endeavouring to develop this approach in their schools.
